To be able to tell us at the end, they would have to... not get caught. And I imagine it is much easier to get away with if you don't tell a single soul.

And then there is another dilemma - what if you tell someone, who swears they will keep your secret, but then someone they have stronger ties to comes under suspicion? Would they keep your secret at their other friend's expense? [she shrugs.] ...it seems a large risk to take for very little payoff.

Probably not? You've put wayyy more thought into this than me. No witnesses is always the best way to go.

...I'm just trying to consider what others may do. Perhaps I will be wrong. Perhaps if someone does kill someone in pursuit of one of these apples, they will be overcome with guilt and confess on the spot.
