[waner, who makes a habit of walking in the garden, notices the change in the apple tree fairly early on in the morning.
so, of course, she walks into the garden to take a closer look. she approaches the tree, her eyes on the fruit, and then pauses - her eyes going wide as that intuitive understanding of what these fruits are and what picking one would mean floods her.
she's left standing there for a few long moments before she hears footsteps, and she whirls toward them, her expression strained.]
anyway! it is Later. in theory, she's meeting up with adolphe so they can work on self-defense. in practice, wherever they are there's a reflective surface, which means memshares are happening even though she's been trying so, so hard to avoid being caught up with them (even to the point of not admiring herself in the mirror after getting dressed like she usually does).
maybe that's why, instead of just one memory, two play out in quick succession as she greets him. the first is fairly sweet, and ends with a promise - one that does not seem to have been kept in the second second (cw: forced abortion implication).
waner's expression is a little flat as she glares at the man in the memory who did not, in fact, keep his promise.]
[ Adolphe is actually pretty good at teaching self-defense and was getting things ready while thinking about all that factors into such things, until he's smacked in the face with two memories in quick succession.
Adolphe actually doesn't know what the hell abortion is, but it doesn't take long to understand with all the context surrounding it.
IS THIS HER FOOD AT HOME?? IM GONNA LOSE IT ]
...
[ He honestly doesn't have any other words for that as he looks at the guy with disdain. What the fuck. ]
anyway. yeah. mood. waner may think she deserves better than him - she wants more than what she has - but she doesn't want to be pitied, either, and so she makes a face and crosses her arms.]
...pretend you saw nothing, please. Let's proceed with our lesson.
[i want an adolphe memshare though]
heavy virche spoilers but i assume you know most of them by now
[ You know what, yeah. Adolphe will take Waner's suggestion and move right along to the lesson. He's not here to pity her--he's here to teach her how to protect herself, so he nods and is about to tell her about the main important things that she should know about self-defense, except...
A memory plays, and Adolphe is || close to shattering whatever the reflection is coming from. ]
is that how he ended up here in heaven, then? waner looks like she wants to ask him about it, or perhaps say something to try to comfort him, but he doesn't look like he'll appreciate it.
so, instead, she shrugs off the outer layer of her outfit - it's fine, she's got a billion layers because her clothes are just like that - and tosses it over the reflective surface to try to keep it from displaying anything else they both don't want seen.]
This is ridiculous. At least this should stop in a few days...
[she's just going off how the other weekly effects stopped with the new week. she does not know they have perma-memshare.]
[ He doesn't know that these are permanent either, so he quietly sighs, muttering a small thanks when Waner puts the single layer of clothes over the reflective surface. ]
I hope so too. They're highly distracting, and I don't think I've been able to find peace around any mirror around.
[ Their hopes on this being a weekly effect will be shattered next week... ]
Anyway, whatever you just saw—it isn't a good choice of self-defense.
[ Then he goes on to comment what would be most effective for Waner's level of strength, size and relative speed. It's really the basics. He's not going to expect her to know how to kick someone under the chin or for her punches to blow people away. The choices are deliberate and well thought out for the maximum amount of pain she can inflict to buy herself time to run away, or to just make them pass out. ]
[ There's something loud going on towards the church. If she heads over there and peeks inside the door, she will see the the interior of the church ruined with glass everywhere, shattered windows and glass art, disorderly pews, and slashed paintings of axolotls.
The emotion share can only be described as something that would look disgusting like a sludge, but it feels like nothing, like the void. The vibes are overwhelming.
You can choose whether this hits her or not, but there is a thick shard of a stained glass that's the size of a hand being flung her way. ]
the problem here is she's been working on self-defense lessons. and her first lessons, before coming here, were in disarming her opponents and trying to take their weapons for herself. so she doesn't quite clock what's being thrown her way, but her instinct is to try to grab for it so if it is a weapon it can't be used against her.
this means the glass shard slices open her hand when she reaches out to grab it, and digs into her skin before she can fully register what it is she's grabbed. then she hisses with pain and lets it go, and the shard hits the ground and shatters.
[ There's a bit of silence as the emoshare slowly converts into guilt. He makes himself seen within her field of vision too and his hands are a little bloody, but there are no visible cuts. This place has excellent healing. Oh, he's also holding his sword. ]
I feel as though I should ask you that - [her gaze flicks to his bloody hands, to the shattered glass on the ground, and to his sword] - but it seems as though I can see what you are doing.
...but I was looking for you.
[the flare of annoyance fades into something more muted. there's a twinge of concern, but her anger has always been her strongest feeling, so the concern doesn't stand out quite as much.]
[ There is a reddish brown wolf plush toy on the ground. It seems to call for Waner as if to draw aggro. It compels (but not force) her to be aggressive at it in any way, whether it's physical, verbal, or whatever else. ]
The wolf plush goes pretty far! It's just a plush, after all. It also doesn't talk, but the vibes radiating from it at Waner might as well be saying the following: oooh is that the best you can do? weren't you training or something? where's the improvement? i don't see any of that! ]

What is this?

Adolphe is looking NORMAL right now and walks into the garden too. There sure is something new today--
Oh.
He doesn't like it. He hates this, actually. However, he looks thoughtful--then reaches over to pick an apple and bites into it.
Nothing happens. It's just an apple. ]

they both know that adolphe did not kill anyone last weekend, so waner just watches this happen for a second.]
...does it taste normal?
no subject
It tastes like any other apple. I don't feel anything different either.
[ He'd normally ask another person to try it, but like. No! What if something happens to her?! (he thinks, not thinking about himself. anyway,) ]

[kills... someone...]
no subject
[ He has a sword by his side inside of its sheathe and looks perfectly fine. Not murderous. Just calm and curious about these murder apples. ]
Do you feel anything different? Since you're close to the fruits too.
